A’Ibom Youths Blast PDP Governors, Justice Jennifer Ijohor

Commend Buhari Over NDDC Appointments

Youths of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have lambasted governors of the Niger Delta region under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for rejecting President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointees into the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Addressing a news conference in Uyo, Tuesday, the youths led by the state youth leader of the APC, Comrade Steve Ntukekpo, said the governors’ action is an exhibition of hatred against competent Niger Deltans who have carved a niche for themselves in their respective fields.

The youths said the governors, through their action, tried futilely to divert attention from their incompetence in office as caretakers of the commonwealth of the region.

According to them, appointment into a federal board is a prerogative of the presidency, not state governments.

They commended President Buhari for constituting the board based on merit, and advised that the present board be allowed to stand.

The youths also faulted the recent judgement by Justice Jennifer Ijohor at the Elections Petitions Tribunal on National Assembly cases in Nigeria.

Part of their statement read: “…we utterly frown at the lopsided, biased and the inconsequential judgement delivered by Justice Ijohor on four of the cases brought before her led-tribunal, we are, however, not surprised since we had earlier perceived and in fact posited clearly a number of parameters which were carefully crafted by the PDP to handcuff justice in connivance with His Lordship.

“Firstly, we knew the political peculiarity of our dear state and the possibility of some of the judges being compromised due to pressure from those who are all out to subvert the voice of justice.

“Of course, it’s no longer news that their manipulative machinations have screwed the judgements so far delivered.
Secondly, at the initial stage of the tribunal, we alarmed of Justice Jenifer Ijohor’s connivance and intimacy with the PDP, a Judge whose husband is the current Secretary to the Government of Benue State, which, of course cannot dance to the tune of justice except that played by the PDP. We did this so as to put to a check, biases in the process of and miscarriage of justice. A case similar to this happened and it involved the President, Court of Appeal, Zainab Bulkachuwa, whose husband is the current Senator under the APC platform.”

They continued: “The PDP alleged of the possibility of biased judgement, and just then, Justice Bulkachuwa honourably stepped aside so justice could have its way. But here in Justice Ijohor’s case, deaf ears is inclined to the pleas made by APC Akwa Ibom State. The results of such is evidently witnessed in her judgments, which, of course are predicated solely on ill-will and outraged anger.”

The youths called on “the Nigerian Judicial Council NJC, Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN, President Court of Appeal and every other stakeholder in the Judiciary arm of government should rise up to their responsibility and put a check on Judges in the likes of Jennifer Ijohor as their actions and collaborations with the PDP led-government in Akwa Ibom State could dent the image of this hallowed institution which is the last hope of the common man.”
