The State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal of Ikono State constituency, sitting in High Court premises Metro Road Off Barracks, Uyo, has continued to gather momentum.
The petition filed by the candidate of APC between Hon. Kenny Eka (Plaintiff) is against the candidate of PDP, Hon. Asuquo Nnana (Defendant), challenging the declaration of the PDP’s candidate by INEC on March 9, 2019 State House of Assembly Elections in the state.
The petition which was billed to be struck out on 11th July, 2019, by the Tribunal because of failure by the Petitioner’s counsel to fellow due process for pre-hearing was restored by the Petitioner’s new counsel led by Barr. Samuel Udom Inue Esq.
Hon. Eka discovered that his former counsel Barr. Victor Iyanam seems to have compromised with his opponent because he failed to open up the modus operandi to the candidate. He narrated that he was with Victor Iyanam on Wednesday 9, July, 2019, but he refused to brief him on a court date but to the Glory of God, information was received from a reliable source that his court date had been fixed on Thursday 11th July, 2019, for hearing.
Counsel to the respondent led by Barr. G. A Umoh, prayed that the petition should be struck out for lacking in merit cited some authorities to back up his prayers. But Counsel to the petitioner Barr. Samuel Udom, vehemently objected the prayers of the first respondent and pleaded for time to respond to affidavit filed by the parties.
The Tribunal adjourned to Saturday 13th July, 2019, for continuation of Pre-hearing.
